Robert M. Roach, M.D., joined Metropolitan Neurosurgery in 1993. He is board certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery, and was recertified in 2009. Dr. Roach specializes in spinal and cranial trauma, brain tumors, spinal degenerative conditions, lumbar and cervical disc surgery, peripheral nerve surgery, and vascular neurosurgery involving treatment of abnormalities of the cerebral vasculature.
Dr. Roach received his bachelor’s degree from St. Olaf College, and earned his M.D. from the University of Minnesota in 1987. He completed internship and residency training in Neurosurgery at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in Iowa City. He grew up in the Twin Cities suburb of Arden Hills and went to Mounds View High School. In his free time, he enjoys skiing and waterskiing, reading, travel, and spending time with his family, in addition to yard work—preferably involving his tractor or chain saw—on the land he owns.
Dr. Roach was first listed as a Top Neurosurgeon by MSP Magazine in 1999 and has received that honor every year for the last decade. He has been active in administrative positions at several of the hospitals he attends, and is a member of the Minnesota State Trauma Advisory Council, as well as the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, and the Minnesota Neurosurgical Society. He works closely with Trauma Services at North Memorial Hospital, a Level I Trauma center.
